About Shenaaz
Shenaaz Janmohamed is the founder and director of Queer Crescent. A healing practitioner of Shia Muslim South Asian ascent, she brings over 15 years of organizing, individual and collective healing practice and facilitation work. Shenaaz sees the power of transmuting and shaping cultures in which LGBTQIA+ Muslims thrive.
As an organizer, Shenaaz focused on issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and patriarchy, and undestood these forms of gendered violence as tools of encroaching state violence and the surveilance of bodies. Often, remedies focus on criminalizing people and the problems through incarceration and deportation, rather than healing from systemic oppression, interpersonal and generational wounding. This context drove Shenaaz to study healing modalities and practice as a therapist for the past several years. Commitments to uprooting systemic injustices prevent her from focusing on individuals solely and through this charge she creates healing spaces to resource communities so that we can stretch towards collective liberation.
Born in Sacramento CA, Shenaaz lives on Ohlone Land (Oakland, CA) where she helps raise her fierce and wise young kiddo.
