Domestic Workers United Holds Press Conference to Celebrate First International Law to Recognize Domestic Workers

On Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11am, Domestic Workers United (DWU) will hold a press conference to celebrate the passage of the first international law ever to recognize domestic workers and set forth basic labor standards for all domestic workers worldwide.

Domestic workers, employers, labor leaders, and United Nations representatives will speak to the significance of the historic Convention on Decent Work for Domestic Workers that will have just been voted on at the International Labor Organization in Geneva. This momentous victory comes on the heels of the passage of the first Domestic Workers Bill of Rights in the United States. Building on the momentum in New York, California domestic workers are poised to win similar rights and protections this year as the CA Bill of Rights makes its way through the state legislature.

Join DWU to learn about how they’re continuing to build through the implementation of the new law in New York and organizing to expand the right to organize so that there are greater rights, safety, and security for domestic workers and all workers.

Press Conference Location:
Washington Square Park
under the Arch, at 5th Avenue and Washington Square North.
