Just Detention International Launches New Education Video and Facilitators Guide About Prison Sexual Abuse and Harassment

Every single person in detention — no matter what crime they may have committed — has the right to be free from sexual abuse and sexual harassment. This video, called PREA: What You Need to Know, aims to teach people about this basic right and how to stay safe behind bars. Developed by Movement Maker organization Just Detention International and the National PREA Resource Center, the video was designed for corrections agencies to educate the people in their care. It features a range of presenters, including prison and jail officials, JDI advocates, and former inmates — including members of JDI’s Survivor Council.

Inmate education is a cornerstone of the Prison Rape Elimination Act standards, and this video is a crucial tool to help facilities implement the standards — and to promote safety for the people in their custody.
