Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Movement Maker Organizations

Not suprisingly, this month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, is busy for many of the Movement Maker organizations who are engaged in a variety of activities to help raise awareness about sexual assualt. While by no means a complete list, here are a few things that Movement Makers are involved in during April. Use #SAAM to find out more about events and activities happening.

A Long Walk Home. On April 12th, as part of #SAAM, the parents of the A Long Walk Home’s teen girl program, Girl/Friends, hosted their first event, “Our Stories: African American Parents & Families Ending Sexual Violence”. This program used the art of African American storytelling and activism to bring awarenes to the epidemic of sexual violence in their communities and inspire action and change.

Minnesota Indian Women’s Sexual Assault Coalition’s statewide conference is at the end of the month and includes their annual community pow wow with an honor song for victims of sexual violence.

National Resource Center on Domestic Violence is joining the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) in promoting healthy adolescent sexuality for their National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (#SAAM) campaign and related activities. Social media activities for #SAAM include #TweetAboutIt Twitter Chats every Tuesday in April at 2pm Eastern and a #30DaysOfSAAM photo contest on Instagram.
