About Trans*Visible
Trans*Visible was birthed in 2016, through community conversations between Trans* people who feel excluded, silenced, or misrepresented in current movement spaces. This community assessment pointed to the need for deeper, more intersectional political education trainings, diversified opportunities for Trans* individuals to be seen as “leaders” beyond gender and sexual orientation issues, and increased resources challenging Binarism. For Trans*Visible binarism is defined as the assumption gender exists only as “man” or “woman” and ascribes deviance to gender identities, behaviors, and bodies outside of those categories. While binarism is largely ascribed to gender and sexual orientation we also find binarism showing up in or movement ideologies (e.g. “right” and “left”) and organizing strategies (“direct action” and “political action”).Trans*Visible seeks counter binarism in all its forms by creating visibility for those living beyond the binaries in their gender, sexual orientation and political ideologies, and organizing strategies.
Trans*Visible provides facilitation and thought-partnership to MEV. The Trans*Visible team that supports Move to End Violence includes:
